With unlimited chess board layout possibilities, it's a lot of fun to play Infinity Chess Plus with more than two players. In this variation, we outline a method to play with two to four players using a single chess set. The goal is for the players to eliminate each other's game pieces. A player is out of the game when all his/her game pieces are lost. The last player standing wins the game.
At the start of the game, each player take turns drafting game pieces from the single chess set. A player may draft one game piece per turn. The draft is over when each player has four game pieces.
The players agree on the starting positions. Usually, each player starts on a different edge of the board. But it will be fun trying different starting locations in the middle of the board as well. The following is an example of starting positions for three players on a plane of three Expandable Chess Boards.
The players decide who starts first. And then decide whether the turn goes to the left player or the right player next. Once the game starts, each player takes his/her turn like in chess.
The pawn may move one space in any horizontal and vertical direction. Each pawn's opening move can move up to two spaces. Pawn can take an opponent(s) piece by moving one space diagonally in any direction. Because the board has infinite layout possibilities, there is no particular edge, nor opponents' edge. Therefore, the pawn does not turn into a queen upon reaching any edge.
Because multiple players will be drafting the game pieces from a single chess set, only one player will get the king. Therefore, the king's significance is similar to any other game piece; taking the king does not necessarily cause a player to lose the game. It is not necessary to move the king out of a check situation. And it is OK for the king to move into a check situation. There is no castling in this game mode.
