Introduction to Infinite Chess Plus

Infinite Chess Plus is based on chess. It is like an expansion to chess, which allows you to play a variety of different chess games and lets you experiment with different chess board layouts.

Board

Infinite Chess Plus uses Expandable Chess Boards that are 4x4 a piece. Using multiple Expandable Chess Boards, you can create any chess board layout. And, in fact, there are infinite possible layouts.

It's possible to play regular chess with Infinite Chess Plus by making an 8x8 square layout with Expandable Chess Boards (see diagram below).

The following diagrams are other possible layouts as examples.

History

I came up with the Infinite Chess Plus idea while looking to 3D print a chess board for my children. I encountered several puzzle chess boards, where you build a standard chess board from a few to many pieces. This research made made me realize that irregular chess board layouts can be fun, interesting, educational, and even mathematically challenging.

While deciding on a name, I thought that Infinity Chess would represent the idea well. But the Internet showed that Infinity Chess already belonged to a chess league (see "Related Links" below). I then looked up Infinite Chess. Turns out Infinite Chess is a similar concept in that the chess board could be any size and infinite in size. But like chess, it is always squared. You can read about Infinite Chess on Wikipedia through the "Related Links" section below.

Seeing that my idea with irregular chess board layout takes Infinite Chess one or more steps further, I decided to call it Infinite Chess Plus.
