What is a Sliding Puzzle Game?

A sliding puzzle is a puzzle board game that challenges the players to set up a particular design pattern, usually an image, by sliding flat pieces along some paths on a board. In older days this same board game was played by the name Fifteen Puzzle. This sliding puzzle has been computerized nowadays and is available in many of the websites for free to play. This game can be termed as a child of the jigsaw puzzle by comparing the feature of forming a picture on-screen. Once a player finds a way to line up all the pieces, the last square of the puzzle displays the whole image automatically. Sliding puzzles game is usually a two-dimensional game. Though we use mechanically interlinked pieces for sliding or three-dimensional tokens the game still remains two-dimensional. In many of the board games we can lift pieces from the board to make a move, but in the sliding puzzle game we cannot lift any pieces off the board. This rule makes this game to differ from other rearrangement puzzles which may have the same goal as this game. Therefore the important features of solving this puzzle game involves a player to find his moves, and opens the paths by each of his move within the two-dimensional puzzle board.
