On Pongo Island, you will find the prettiest of all the pretty butterflies. Known on the island as "A Green Butterfly", simply because the green butterfly is the rarest and most beautiful of all the butterflies. Thought by many to be nothing more than a myth, those who have been lucky enough to see the rare green butterfly of Pongo Island, share their stories with wonder and awe.
No one knows how A Green Butterfly came to be on the island, but it is thought that he has always been there, as stories of sightings go back as far as Pongo Island history can reach. He has been seen fluttering along the beach at night, his wings said to be glittering in the moonlight along the water. The good ladies of Pongo Island have reported seeing him dancing along the edges of their freshly baked apple pies left cooling on their window sills.
So, if you happen to be sitting quietly on Pongo Beach in the glittering moonlight on a warm Pongo Island night, perhaps you will be lucky enough to see A Green Butterfly fluttering by. Bring along a freshly baked apple pie, and maybe you will even tempt him to stop by and visit for a bit.
